Secure Attachments Free Emotions
Counselling helps individual adults using a neuro-affirming approach of Attachment and Trauma theory, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy and elements of Internal Family Systems Therapy.
Humans are relational beings, we are wired for connection and are not meant to go through life on our own. Yes we may have had to, due to family or relational breakdown or loss and this is when we develop survival parts that respond to this distress; attachment strategies form to induce as much connection as is possible attempting to ensure our survival needs are met. These needs are vital to our survival and are therefore known as our fundamental core needs: safety & security (food, shelter, income) belonging & acceptance (familial and social), protection and fairness (equitable support), autonomy (initiative, balanced limits and encouragement). Our caregivers and the community in which we grow up determine whether and how these core needs are met or not. When core needs are not met this is when those survival responses and attachment strategies activate and help create self beliefs, schemas and world views develop that limit or distort how we go about our life. They are helpful initially, yet as we grow and our environment changes to different contexts different strategies and coping may be required and this is where we begin to struggle. This is where Esther aims to model what is needed for Secure Attachment to enable the Free expression of your Emotions and needs so you can find your way forward.
Through a relatable therapeutic environment Esther will listen to you explore your difficulties and help you to develop a deeper and more comprehensive understanding; help you to reconnect to your values and get core needs met; identify what's in your control to change and take action and connect with your values so you can live a Secure Functioning life.
Because whatever hardship we encounter, with the right support we can find a way to grow again, we may be changed as a result, and life may also look different, and it may be a long road but we can heal and live a new kind of normal, whatever normal is 🙂
